We are seeking to hire a Biostatistician (consultant) for the TOPOWA project, up to 20 hours per week (to be negotiated) for the remainder of the study period.
The TOPOWA project is a 5-year long interdisciplinary research study, funded by the NIH (2022-2026), to address the social drivers of mental illness in low-income settings. The key study question asks if vocational training and women empowerment initiatives such as entrepreneurship and vocational skills will improve mental health trajectories for women in poverty (see conceptual model below). This ongoing community study in Kampala comprises multiple modes of data collection. We include surveys, a neuroscience experiment, wearable garmins, biomarkers data, a daily diary and GIS. The prospective cohort study follows 300 women, ages 18-24, for 27 months with 10 data collection points (3 months apart). We are currently collecting baseline data. Baseline data collection will be completed this year.
Join us on this ground breaking research project that is assessing the social determinants of mental health, a first of its kind. The study is led by a strong international team. Dr. Monica Swahn, a psychiatric epidemiologist, professor and Dean, is the Principal Investigator for the study. The study investigators represent researchers at Kennesaw State University, Georgia State University, Makerere University and the American College of Toxicologists. The study implementation is conducted in collaboration with our long-term partner, the Uganda Youth Development Link.
